Description
Metropolitain or Metro sign, a cast-iron balustrade decorated in plant-like motifs, supported by two orange globes atop ornate cast-iron supports in the form of plant stems. The original art nouveau entrances to the Metro are iconic symbols of Paris, and only 38 survive. Designed by Hector Guimard, the style caused controversy in 1900. Black and white version.
