Artist's Description

The first church built on the same location as the Matthias Church was founded by Saint Stephen, King of Hungary in 1015. It was destroyed in 1241 by the Mongols. The Matthias Church was built in 1255 and was the original parish church of Buda. It was named after King Matthias who ruled from 1458-90. It has been renovated many times over the centuries. It was used as a mosque by the Turks after they conquered Buda in 1541. In 1686, the Jesuits occupied the church and renovated it in the Baroque style. In 1896, the church was restored to its original Gothic design at which time the diamond patterned roof tiles and gargoyles were added. The coronations of many of Hungary’s kings were held in Matthias Church including Charles IV in 1916, the last Habsburg king.

About Pamela Newcomb

Pamela Newcomb

Welcome to my gallery! I am the proud owner and creator of Pamorama Photography®, a Southern California photography business. I often combine photography with travel and outdoor activities. I seek to capture exceptional images of the world as I see it. I look for color, texture, and light as I photograph nature, architecture, sunsets, sunrises, seascapes, landscapes, events and more. I want my clients to experience my images with the feeling that they are present in the moment. I have created custom art by adjusting the detail, palette, and colors to suit decorating requests. I have had a lot of success with printing on metals and acrylic, and using light boxes. To consult about a custom version of one of my images, please send...
